UPPCO Land Sale
In December 2005, Upper Peninsula Power Company sold land surrounding Bond Falls,
Boney Falls, and Cataract Basin. The land sold was outside the Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission boundaries for the hydro-electric projects. UPPCO will
grant easements to the land's new owner, Naterra Land, to access the shoreline
and potentially construct docks, as has been done by other utilities that have
sold land near hydroelectric projects. The easements can only be granted if they
are consistent with the requirements of the project licenses granted by the Federal
Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
The property sale included 960 acres near Bond Falls in Ontonagon County,
150 acres near Boney Falls in Marquette and Delta counties, and 250 acres near
the Cataract Basin in Marquette County. All of these lands are outside the FERC
project boundaries.
UPPCO has pledged to abide by the provisions of its FERC licenses and will
continue to keep the public informed.
